Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has called for the entire political system and people of all backgrounds to strongly engage with regulations aimed at combating the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic.

The Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) held a ceremony in Hanoi on March 17 in a bid to mobilise the entire population in support of prevention activities to stop the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic, with PM Phuc in attendance.

In his address, the Government leader stated that the COVID-19 pandemic will undergo a number of complicated developments in the near future, and could potentially spread rapidly on a larger scale compared to other health scares in the past. This could result in plenty of more deaths globally which will have a deeper impact on many territories throughout the world.

At present, the nation has brought infection in the wider community under control by deploying a range of preventive measures, applying strict regulations on isolation, providing quality care and treatment, in addition to stepping up early detection methods and communications effectively with members of the public.

Most notably, every citizen has a heightened sense of vigilance and is giving their best possible efforts in the fight against the epidemic, the government chief noted.

The country has sufficient capacity, resources, and experience to be able to contain the disease, he said, adding that both the Party and State have always made the health of citizens its top priority as a means of meeting Vietnam’s socio-economic development targets.

On behalf of both Party and State leaders, PM Phuc singled out agencies within the political system, the VFF, members of the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, and relevant ministries and sectors for praise, going on to thank them for their sustained efforts in combating the epidemic.

He also clarified that Vietnam remains determined to realise its national socio-economic development targets, emphasising that the country has affirmed its problem-solving capacity in terms of its political system, thereby consolidating the international community’s confidence in the nation.

During the ceremony, 17 units representing member organisations, businesses, and 15 banks registered their support of COVID-19 prevention activities through the VFF, with over VND253 billion being pledged, including VND140 billion coming from banks.
