(ĐN)- The 9th-tenure Dong Nai provincial People’s Council convened its sixth working session on July 4, under the chair of Chairman Nguyen Phu Cuong.

In his opening remarks, Chairman Nguyen Phu Cuong of the provincial People’s Committee stressed that the three-day session aims to review the implementation of socio-economic development tasks, security and defense in Dong Nai in the first half of this year and work out for next half.

Accordingly, Dong Nai’s economy in the first six months of this year continues to show strong growth across fields. Particularly, the province achieved a gross regional domestic product growth of 7.5 percent during the time, of which the industry and construction up 8.2 percent, the services sector up 7.5 percent, and the agro-forestry-fishery sector, 3.1 percent.

Speaking at the meeting, Secretary Nguyen Phu Cuong asked relevant agencies and localities to continue efforts to achieve a Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) of between 8-9 percent this year.

Dong Nai has a total of 129 new style rural communes, making up 97 percent of the total. Moreover, 8 other districts also met criteria for new rural development, accounting for 72.7 percent of the total.  In the coming time, the province will maintain and upgrade criteria that Dong Nai met, ensuring sustainability in socio-economic and cultural development, and form concentrated growing and breeding areas and work towards commercial, modern and sustainable agricultural production.

In 2017, Dong Nai ranked 26th among 63 cities and provinces in terms of competitiveness, increasing 8 places from previous year. To improve the index, Dong Nai has made efforts to boost administrative reforms and support policies to enterprises.

According to the PAR (Public Administration Reform) Index 2017, Dong Nai came third in the category of localities, with a score of 84.52 percent. Accordingly, the province scored 89.34 percent for its efforts in administrative reforms and 93.55 percent for the impacts of administrative reforms in the locality’s socio-economic development.

Vice Chairman Tran Van Vinh of the provincial People’s Committee said despite the progress in the local socio-economic situation, there remain many difficulties and challenges. He pointed out the lax management of construction activities in some localities, slow disbursement of capital from the budget, and obstacles to the implementation of investment procedures for projects.

To maintain high and stable growth towards the year’s end, Dong Nai’s Party, people and forces must stay united to overcome challenges and successfully achieve the 2018 socio-economic development goals, keeping the province on track for the next development phase, he added.
