Chairwoman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan left the Russian city of Saint Petersburg on October 16 for the Republic of Kazakhstan, beginning her official visit to the country.
The visit is being made at the invitation of Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament Kassym Zhomart Tokayev and Chairman of the Mazhilis (lower house) of the Parliament Nurlan Nigmatulin.
The Vietnamese top legislator earlier had a series of activities at the 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly (IPU-137) held in Saint Petersburg.
Vietnam and Kazakhstan are members of the Vietnam-Eurasian Free Trade Agreement which came into force in October 2016.
The two countries have signed cooperation agreements in economy, trade and investment promotion, along with a number of memoranda of understanding.
The Vietnamese and Kazakh legislative bodies have also maintained collaboration, both bilaterally and multilaterally.
The official visit to Kazakhstan by Chairwoman Ngan is expected to foster the bilateral partnership in economy, trade, investment, energy and culture-education.
During the visit, the two sides will discuss measures to optimise the Vietnam-Eurasian Free Trade Agreement and step up collaboration in legislative activities.
