(ĐN)- Dong Nai Journalists' Association has selected the 10 most outstanding events of Dong Nai province in 2016 as follows:

1. Dong Nai successfully organized for the election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly (NA) and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2016-2021 tenure, along with other activities to mark political significances such as ceremonies to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the historical insurrection of destroying former Tan Hiep prison (December 2, 1956-2016), the 70th founding anniversary of War Zone D (1946-2016) and the 55th founding anniversary of Central Committee for South Vietnam.

2. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc held talks with 3,000 laborers in Dong Nai and other provinces and cities in the southeast region. The PM listened and removed difficulties of laborers on the issues such as wages, residence, the improvement of their living and working conditions, etc.

3. Dong Nai achieved high economic growth with a Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) growth rate of 8.2 percent; many norms achieved and exceeded the set targets. Accordingly, the province’s foreign direct investment doubled the set target, trade surplus at US$2 billion, industrial production value increased by 4.1 percent, etc.

4. Dong Nai continued leading the country in new rural area construction with 5 district-level localities and 104 out of 133 communes recognized as new rural areas.

5. Dong Nai received certificates in recognition of the Hang Gon Megalith Tomb as a special national relic site and the Tran Bien Temple of Literature as a national relic site.

6. Tunnel at Vung Tau intersection was opened to traffic; tunnel at Tan Phong intersection project under preparation for construction; speeding the progress of An Hao Bridge project; public consultation on Long Thanh International Airport terminal designs.

7. The 100-yearl-old Ghenh Bridge collapse at noon on March 20 after it was hit by a barge transporting 800 tons of sand, causing North-South train services disrupted and the new bridge was completed construction after three months, earlier than expected.

8. With technical assistance from HCM city-based Cho Ray Hospital’s surgeons, Thong Nhat General Hospital’s cardiologists have performed the first case of open-heart surgery in Dong Nai, the first provincial hospital in the country to conduct successfully the surgery, marking an advance in cardiovascular intervention in the province.

9. Dong Nai is the first localty in the country to inspect and fine gold trading businesses who commit in trading under-quality gold jewelry. Accordingly, 35 gold jewellery traders in Dong Nai have been fined over VND1.1 billion for violating gold trademarks and selling jewellery with gold content inaccurately labeled, helping re-organize the gold trading business in the province as well as ensure the rights for consumers.

10. Law agencies in Dong Nai tackled strictly the wrongful case of Nguyen Thia Anh Ngoc, a resident in Nhon Trach district’s Phuoc An commune; held a public apology ceremony to say sorry to Nguyen Tan Dai, residing in Tan Phu district’s Phu Loc commune pay him compensation for wrongful judgement.
