During the visit, President Htin Kyaw and the Myanmar delegation laid wreaths at the memorial of war martyrs, and met with President Tran Dai Quang, Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong, and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

At the meetings, the two sides confirmed their significance of the time-honored relations and committed to deepening the friendship between Vietnam and Myanmar.

They also pledged to encourage people-to-people exchange, connection between localities and further bilateral cooperation within ASEAN and other international and regional forums, such as the Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam (CLMV), Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS), the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC) forum, Greater Mekong Sub region (GMS) and the United Nations (UN); and work together on sustainable and effective use of Mekong river water resources.

The leaders also agreed to promote peace, security and stability and resolve conflicts through peaceful means, following diplomatic and legal processes, not use or threaten to use force, and respect international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
