496 out of 870 candidates were elected to the 14th National Assembly, the National Electoral Council announced at a June 9 press conference in Hanoi.

496 out of 870 candidates were elected to the 14th National Assembly, the National Electoral Council announced at a June 9 press conference in Hanoi.

67 million voters cast their ballots in the 14th National Assembly and people’s council election for the 2016-2021 tenure.

National Assembly Vice Chairman Phung Quoc Hien told reporters that elections were successful, democratic, fair, and lawful.

After announcing the election results, the Council will address petitions, if any, verify the eligibility of the elected, and work on the 14th National Assembly’s report at its first session.

At the National Election Council (NEC)’s sixth session earlier, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said the May 22 general election took place in a mode of democracy and equality, and in line with the law with more than 90% of voters nationwide going to the polls.

The new NA will comprise 500 deputies. Provincial People’s Councils across Vietnam will have 3,918 deputies. Meanwhile, the district and communal levels will have 24,993 and 294,055 members, respectively.
