Vietnam, Spain enhance legislative ties

National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung hosted a reception in Hanoi on January 14 for visiting First Vice President of the Spanish Senate Juan Jose Lucas Gimenez.

National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung hosted a reception in Hanoi on January 14 for visiting First Vice President of the Spanish Senate Juan Jose Lucas Gimenez. 

Chairman Hung said that the visit will contribute to consolidating bilateral ties and promote their strategic partnership for the two peoples’ interests. 

He spoke highly of the position and role of Spain and its Senate in Europe and said that he hopes the two legislative bodies will strengthen the exchange of all-level delegations. 

He also took the opportunity to invite the Senate’s leaders to participate in the 132 nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union to be held in Vietnam in early 2015. 

Gimenez affirmed that his visit aims to not only consolidate the two countries’ fine relationship but also seek measures to boost their bilateral cooperation. 

He said that he backs Vietnamese businesses’ investment and penetration into the Spanish and European markets. 

He expressed his hope that Vietnam will support Spain in the election to the United Nations Security Council, affirming that his country will coordinate closely with Vietnam at international forums and in issues of mutual concern. 

The same day, the guest held talks with NA Vice Chairman Huynh Ngoc Son, during which they affirmed to do their utmost to intensify the two countries’ friendship. 

Son stressed that Vietnam always attaches importance to its partnership with Spain. 

He also expressed his hope that Spain will contribute to boosting the negotiations for a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the European Union. 

The two sides agreed to strengthen experience in lawmaking and high-technology application in order to raise the effectiveness of their legislative activities. 

They also reached a consensus to continue to promote their consultation mechanism and support each other at multilateral forums, including the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership Meeting, for peace, national liberation, development and social progress.
