Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong arrived at Palam airport in New Delhi on November 19, beginning his four-day State visit to India at the invitation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Right after his arrival, Party General Secretary Trong visited the Vietnamese Embassy and met with overseas Vietnamese people in India.
The General Secretary ’s visit aims to deepen the relationship between Vietnam and India and their all-around cooperation.
He is due to hold talks with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, meet with President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President and Chairman of the Senate Mohammad Hamid Ansari, Speaker of the Lower House Meira Kumar, and leaders of the Indian National Congress Party, the National People’s Party, the Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
He is scheduled to visit Mumbai city in Maharashtra state and attend the Mumbai business forum.
Vietnam and India established their diplomatic ties in 1972 and elevated their relations to a strategic partnership in 2007.
As of June this year, India was ranked 30th out of 101 nations and territories investing in Vietnam , with 73 valid projects worth over 253 million USD in the Southeast Asian nation.
Two-way trade was recorded at 2.2 billion USD in the first five months of this year and is expected to hit 7 billion USD by 2015.
