(ĐN)- In Nhon Trach district, Dong Nai province, Naval Zone 2 High Command on October 14 held a solemn ceremony to announce a decision to establish Artillery-Missile Ship Brigade 167 by Defense Minister.

At the ceremony, Commander of the Vietnam People’s Navy Admiral Nguyen Van Hien, Deputy Defense Minister, handed the army’s flag to Artillery-Missile Ship Brigade 167.

Addressing the ceremony, Admiral Hien stressed that the establishment of the brigade marked a new development of Vietnam People’s Navy and Naval Zone 2, aiming to strengthen the naval forces and improve the ability to safeguard country’s sovereignty over its seas, islands and continental shelf. The brigade is a strategic unit that can operate independently or in coordination with other units in naval campaigns.
Under the decision, Artillery-Missile Ship Brigade 167 is a mergence of Flotilla 811 under the Naval Zone 2 High Command and the 2 naval ships of HQ- 272 and HQ- 273 which belongs to Naval Zone 2’s Ship Brigade 171.
