Vietnam, Denmark look to comprehensive partnership

    During a national banquet in Copenhagen on September 18, the Queen highlighted the two countries’ traditional friendship established more than 40 years ago, and recalled her royal family members’ visits to Vietnam, including one by the Prince Crown.

    The government and business community of Denmark want to increase cooperation with Vietnam in various areas, first and foremost cooperation for sustainable development, the Queen said.She affirmed that Denmark continues developing cooperative ties with Vietnam – a developing nation which has an increasing position in the region and the world.

    She emphasised the importance of creating a better environment to support a green economy and minimise the consequences of climate change.

    She suggested Vietnam and Denmark boost cooperation in addressing climate change challenges and shifting to a green economy along with the use of clean, renewable energy.

    The Queen noted that both countries have huge potential for cooperation and the establishment of a comprehensive partnership will open up a new chapter in bilateral relations.

    For his part, President Sang expressed his admiration for impressive achievements Denmark has made in economics, culture, health care, and especially social welfare and education.

    Denmark holds a special position in the heart of many generations of Vietnamese people, he said.

    He said bilateral relations have stood the test of time and expanded to various areas of cooperation, from politics and diplomacy to economics, trade, investment, education-training, legislation, and culture.

    An increase in high-level visit and educational and cultural exchanges has testified to the vitality of Vietnam-Denmark relations, paving the way for the two countries to raise their relationship to a comprehensive partnership, President Sang stressed.

    Earlier the same day, President Sang visited the Vietnamese Embassy and met with representatives of the Vietnamese community in Denmark.

    He asked embassy staff to work hard to strengthen friendship and cooperative ties between Vietnam and Denmark.

    He also reiterated Vietnam’s Party and State policy of considering the Vietnamese community in Denmark an indispensible part of the Vietnamese nation.

    He called on them to unite, provide mutual assistance, and integrate well into local communities.

    President Sang is scheduled to hold talks with the Danish Prime Minister and witnessed the signing of a number of cooperation agreements on September 19.
