Nation promotes strategic relations with Russia

Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh has discussed future cooperation between Vietnam and Russia during a five-day official trip.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh has discussed future cooperation between Vietnam and Russia during a five-day official trip.

During a meeting with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, opinions were exchanged on developing strategic relations, especially in the fields of nuclear power and military techniques.

Rogozin confirmed that Russia will strengthen its cooperation on military techniques with Vietnam and help in the construction of Ninh Thuan No 1 nuclear power plant.

The two sides agreed on the great potential for using outer space to promote peace.

Minh also held talks with the first Vice-Speaker of the State Duma, Ivan Melnikov.

The two sides agreed to boost exchanges between the youth of both nations to educate them in the traditional relationship.

During a meeting with Minh’s counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, the two sides discussed the implementation of solutions to boost strategic and comprehensive cooperation in all fields.

They also attached key importance to cooperation in the energy field and agreed to encourage their oil enterprises to consolidate their cooperation in Vietnam and Russia – and in other countries.

And they also exchanged opinions on recent developments in Southeast Asia and the East Sea.

They said all the disputes should be settled on the basis of international law, especially the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982 and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), and voiced their support for efforts towards building the Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).

It was agreed Vietnam and Russia will support each other in forums such as the United Nations, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation and ASEAN Regional Forum.
