In a recent interview granted to a VOV correspondent in Paris, Claude Blanchemaison, who was French Ambassador to Vietnam from 1989 to 1993, emphasized that the country holds an important geographical position in Asia with an attractive businesses environment.

“I believe that the Government of newly-elected President Francois Hollande will pay attention to this, and improve relations with Vietnam in the framework of Asia-Europe cooperation,” he said.
He noted that in 2013 and 2014 there will be many exchange activities between the two countries, and the forming of a new government will bring about positive changes in bilateral ties.
It is very important for France to boost cooperation with Vietnam, which is maintaining high economic growth and a good competitive environment. In fact, many French businesses are keen on Asian markets, including China, India and Vietnam, said the French diplomat.
Blanchemaison, who is a French representative of the Asia-Europe Foundation, revealed that President Francois Hollande will attend the Asia-Europe Summit (ASEM) in Laos in November where he is expected to focus on strengthening relations with Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam.
Francois Mitterand was the first French President who visited Vietnam in February 1993 and his visit played a key role in expanding bilateral relations, Blanchemaison said.
He confirmed that the French government’s external policy always attaches importance to promoting relations with Vietnam, which is on the fast track to development.
