The Cuban media have given extensive coverage of the official visit to Cuba by the Vietnamese Party’s General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

Granma, the official organ of the Communist Party of Cuba, had a front page spread of the arrival of the Vietnamese Party leader and his entourage at the Jose Marti International Airport . The daily also quoted Trong’s speech at a press conference he gave on his arrival.

In its “Good Morning” bulletin, Cuban Television reviewed the outstanding achievements made by the Vietnamese people during their renewal process. It also praised the traditional fraternity and cooperation between the two Parties, Governments and peoples.

Party General Secretary Trong’s official visit was also spotlighted in an article published by the Prensa Latina News Agency.

The article, entitled “ Cuba and Vietnam step up comprehensive cooperation”, said that “ Cuba and Vietnam are seeking opportunities to boost their bilateral ties during the visit to the island state from April 9 by a senior level delegation from the Communist Party of Vietnam lead by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.”

The ‘Trabajadores’ or ‘Workers’ newspaper also ran an article “Cuba-Vietnam, an example of fraternity”, highlighting the important milestones of Cuba and Vietnam’s relationship since the two countries first established diplomatic ties on December 2, 1960.

“Cuban-Vietnamese unity has been built on the principles of respecting the independence, sovereignty and right to self-determination of all nations”, said the article.

On April 9 morning (local time), General Secretary Trong and his entourage laid wreaths at the Statue of President Ho Chi Minh in Havana .

Later, Trong visited and delivered a speech at the Nico Lopez Communist Party School , an important training centre for cadres of the Cuban Party’s Central Committee.

He talked about socialism and the path to socialism in Vietnam as well as problems that the country faces along the way.
