The three-day 11th National Women's Congress closed in Ha Noi on March 14.
Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa has been re-elected president of the Viet Nam Women Union's Central Committee for the 2012-2016 term.
During the meeting, which carried the motto "Unity, Creativity, Integration and Development," the union, which has 163 members, elected its central committee. Truong Thi Thanh Hoa was elected president, and seven members named vice presidents.
Delegates attending the congress approved eight major targets for the next five years. They agreed that by late 2016, at least 700,000 poor households headed by women would get access to financial credit and have the support of the Women's Union. Of those, the union plans to lift 400,000 households from poverty.
In addition, the union aims to provide 100,000 new jobs a year for women and train a further 50,000 in jobs-related skills. Of those receiving vocational training, the union expects 70 per cent will find jobs when their course finishes.
Hoa told reporters after the conference that over the next five years the union aimed to improve the quality of its information dissemination, education and communication, boost the union's leaders effectiveness and improve resource mobilisation between the women's union and other agencies.
