
(ĐN)- The 3rd session of the 8th provincial People’s Council opened in Dong Nai on Tuesday with a focus on reviewing the province’s socio-economic performance in 2011 and setting tasks for 2012.

Attending the meeting were Secretary Tran Dinh Thanh of Dong Nai provincial Party Committee, Chairman Dinh Quoc Thai of the provincial People's Committee, Chairman Tran Van Tu of the provincial People's Council, and Chairman Vy Van Vu of the provincial Fatherland Front.
According to the report of the provincial People’s Committee, Dong Nai maintained a high and sustainable socio-economic growth rate this year.
In 2011, the province is expected to register an economic growth rate of 13,32 percent and earn over US$9,8 billion from exports. The province’s gross domestic product (GDP) is estimated at around VND96.82 trillion and per capita income is VND36.6 million ($1,800); total investment capital for social development reached US$34 trillion
This year, Dong Nai attracted US$990 million in foreign direct investment and VND15 trillion in domestic investment; total budget collection estimated to reach more than VND22.6 trillion or 118.3% of the yearly estimate.
The province also passed social targets including the creation of 90 thousand jobs and the poverty rate slashed down by 5%; some 92% of urban population was provided with clean water and 95% of households have accessed to electricity, 100% of medical waste and 65% of harmful waste have been collected and treated, etc.
The province has made efforts to ensure political security, social order and safety.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman Tran Van Tu stressed the challenges and the shortcomings in high input material prices, electricity supply shortages, site clearance and resettlement in Dong Nai and asked provincial localities to do their best to boost socio-economic development, reinforce administrative reform and combat corruption in the most effective way.
During the three -day session, delegates participated in discussion of and solutions to fulfill socio-economic tasks for 2012.
