NA Chairman receives Lao, Japanese ambassadors

National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung separately received Lao and Japanese ambassadors to Vietnam Somphon Synchaleun and Yasuaki Tanizaki in Hanoi on Oct. 19.

In his meeting with the Lao Ambassador, Chairman Hung highlighted the cooperation between the two National Assemblies of Vietnam and Laos and affirmed his intention to promote the bilateral cooperation.

He urged the two countries’ relevant agencies to join efforts to organise events to mark the 50 th anniversary of Vietnam-Laos friendship.

Ambassador Somphon Synchaleun said the Lao Party and State are preparing for celebrations of the 50 th anniversary of the Vietnam-Laos diplomatic ties in 2012, contributing to maintaining and promoting special sentiment between the two nations.

The diplomat said he considers Vietnam as his second homeland and will spare no effort to contribute to bringing the Laos-Vietnam traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation to a new height.

In another meeting with Japanese Ambassador Yasuaki Tanizaki, Chairman Hung said he believed the ambassador will make contributions to boosting the Vietnam-Japan strategic partnership during his term of office in Vietnam .

He highly valued the Japanese Government’s continued provision of official development assistance (ODA) to Vietnam , focusing on infrastructure development, human resource development, development of supporting industries, environmental protection and climate change resilience.

The Chairman expressed his sympathy to the Japanese people over heavy losses caused by the earthquake and tsunami in March, believing that the Japanese people will overcome difficulties and resume stability and allow the country to continue developing.

He urged the two countries to expand cooperation in fields such as defence and security, and exploitation of sea and island resources for peace and stability in the region and the world.

Chairman Hung noted the cooperation in construction of a nuclear power plant and express railway, and rare earth exploitation, asking the two sides to seek solutions in the spirit of ensuring safety and efficiency.

He spoke highly of efforts to solve the incident at the Fukushima 1 nuclear power plant in Japan and said that this is a major lesson in cooperation between the two countries in the field.

The NA Chairman emphasised the importance of cooperation between the two parliaments, urging the two sides to promote cooperative relations in the years to come.

Ambassador Yasuaki Tanizaki affirmed that Japan will support Vietnam in its process of becoming an industrialised nation by 2020.

Japan always maintains its viewpoint of attaching importance to cooperation with Vietnam , including cooperation between the two parliaments.

The Ambassador said Japan wants to cooperate with Vietnam in nuclear power and is willing to share experience in the field.

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is conducting a pre-feasibility study on the express railway project and will submit it to the National Assembly and the Government for consideration and selection, he said./.
