With twenty-three large investment projects in Dong Nai, the UK enterprises has contributed positively to the province’s economic development over the past time.
In this working visit, the delegation was specially interested in Agent Orange issues in Dong Nai.
Dong Nai is one of the localities most heavily affected by Agent Orange/dioxin, with over 10 million litres of the toxic chemical sprayed on half of the province’s area. As many as more than 13,000 local people were exposed and 8,000 are still suffering from resulting health problems, of which over 3,000 are children, said Vice Chairman Nguyen Thanh Tri.

For many years, the provincial authorities and people have given spiritual and material support to help AO victims and their families to overcome difficulties and improve living conditions. However, more than 70% of AO/dioxin victims in the province are still alive in very difficult circumstances and need the help.
On behalf of the delegation, Mark Hedrick thanked the provincial government and people for their warm welcome and expressed his concern over the Agent Orange issue in Dong Nai in particular and Vietnam in general. This was the first time the delegation took a trip to the heavily AO-contaminated province of Dong Nai. After this trip, the delegation will submit a report to Parliament on AO problems in the province.
