Huynh Trung Nam, chairman of the property company Imperial Group, was appointed by Malta's President and approved by Viet Nam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the Honourary Consul.
On behalf of the Republic of Malta, he will provide consulate services and implement programmes to promote bilateral economic cooperation and cultural exchange.
"Priorities will be given to trade development and investment between the two countries as my first activities as the honourary consul," said Nam at the opening ceremony.
Early next month a business mission from Malta will visit Viet Nam to explore opportunities.
"We are actively working with the Malta Chamber of Commerce for the establishment of a Viet Nam trade promotion office in that country," Nam said.
