2nd session of 8th People’s Council opens

(ĐN)- The 2nd session of the 8th provincial People’s Council opened in Dong Nai on Thursday with a focus on revewing the province’s socio-economic performance in the first half of this year and setting tasks for the second half.

(ĐN)- The 2nd session of the 8th provincial People’s Council opened in Dong Nai on Thursday.

In his speech, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Tran Minh Phuc said Dong Nai’s economic performance in the first six months was highlighted by its positive growth despite impacts from inflation. He also said that during the period, the province saw encouraging achievements in curbing inflation, ensuring social welfares and improving people’s living standards whille assuring political security, social order and safety. Cultural and social activities obtained certain achievements.

Dong Nai’s GDP reached an estimated VND 18,860 billion, a 13.2 percent year-on-year rise. The province recorded an export turnover of more than US$4.4 billion, fulfilling 53% of the yearly plan and increasing 31.4% year-on-year. The province’s industrial production value increased by 17.2 percent while its agricultural production rose by 3.77 percent.  

The provincial Finance Department reported that budget collection in the first six months is estimated to reach nearly VND 11.8 trillion, or 59 percent of the yearly estimate.

During the two-day session, delegates participate in discussion of the implementation of socioeconomic tasks in the first half of this year, the tasks for the second half as well as effective measures and solutions to fulfill socio-economic tasks for 2011.
 
Also in the session, delegates will discuss the provincial budget estimate and the budget allocation plan for 2011, regulation on the operation of the 8th provincial People’s Council and other matters.

The session will be closed on Friday afternoon
