(ĐN)- The second session of the Bien Hoa municipal People's Council in the 2011-2016 term opened on Monday with a focus on revewing the city’s socio-economic performance in the first half of this year and setting tasks for the second half.

Presence at the meeting were Chairman of the Municipal People's Committee Nguyen Phu Cuong and Vice Chairwoman of the Dong Nai Provincial People's Council Huynh Thi Nga.

Socio-economic development in Bien Hoa city recorded encouraging results in the first half of this year, according to the municipal People’s Committee.

Many of the city’s socio-economic targets were met or surpassed, according to committee records.

The city maintained a high economic growth rate in the first six months while ensuring social welfare and assuring political security, social order and safety.

The city’s GDP reached an estimated over VND 11.75 trillion, a 14.93 percent year-on-year rise and its budget collection in the first six months is estimated to reach over VND 620 billion, or 50 percent of the yearly estimate

However, the delegates also pointed out shortcomings that needed to be addressed such as the collective economic sector facing many difficulties and challenges, increasing traffic accidents and other matters.

In the second half of the year, the city will focus on removing obstacles in order to facilitate the site clearance and compensation, create more favorable conditions for local businesses to flourish and take measures to implement the 2011 State budget collection meeting the requirements. 

The session will be closed on Tuesday afternoon.
