The dry, hot weather in March created conditions conducive to disease and insect outbreaks on corn. The three districts of Xuan Loc, Tan Phu and Vinh Cuu were the hardest hit.
The department has urged farmers to spray chemicals on affected corn fields to prevent the spreading of insects and diseases.
