(ĐN)- Dong Nai province discharges around 2,100 tons of household waste each day, according to the Provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment. However, waste collection only reaches over 1,800 tons a day in the province. Burying solid waste at landfills is the main treatment method used in the province. Most of the household waste has yet to be processed safely and the uncontrolled open-air dumping sites seriously pollute the environment. About 50 per cent of collected solid waste in the province is treated to meet sanitary requirements. In addition, the public awareness of proper waste disposal is low, and the uncontrolled discharge of rubbish is widespread.
