(ĐN)- A meeting to celebrate the 3rd annual World Malaria Day to commemorate the global effort toward effective control and elimination of malaria was held in Dong Nai province’s Vinh Cuu district on Sunday. Also present at the meeting was Dr. Le Thanh Dong, Director of the Ho Chi Minh city Institute of Malariology, Parasitology and Entomology.
Dong Nai is one of the hot spots of malaria with nearly 40 percent of the province’s population living in malaria-endemic areas including 81 communes and 519 villages. Although the province has made efforts to reduce the number of malaria cases and deaths, as well as prevent the spread of disease, districts of Vinh Cuu, Tan Phu and Dinh Quan are still facing a serious threat of malaria outbreaks. Thus, the province should redouble its efforts to reduce the number of malignant malaria cases and fatal cases of this disease. The local health authorities urge every family to use insect repellent, sleep under a mosquito net, use mosquito coils and take anti-malarial drugs to avoid the disease.
