The session was presided over by Tran Dinh Thanh, Secretary of the Dong Nai provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Council.. Also attending at the session was Le Hong Phuong, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Vo Van Mot, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee.

The session began with the presentation of the Provincial People’s Committee’s report on socio-economic development, State Budget performance, construction of works in the first half of the year.
An estimate shows total output value of Dong Nai hit VND 12,755 billion in the first six months of this year, or 43.5 per cent of the years plan, a growth of 15.3 percent as compared with the same period last year. State budget collection is estimated at VND 6,000 billion in the first six months, or 56 per cent of the years plan and an increase of 46 percent as compared with the same period last year.
According to solutions for the province’s socio-economic development for the second half of 2008 mapped out by the Provincial People” committee, the provincial authority will focus on a number of measures to curb inflation and ensure social welfare while maintaining economic growth.
The council also passed plans mapped out by the Provincial People’s Committee to develop houses for local people as well as provide preferential allowance levels for doctors and pharmacists in order to attract human resources. The province plans that all households in Dong Nai will own a house by 2010 with the construction of some new dwelling houses in an area of approximately 6,625 million square metres.
At the meeting, council members ratified a resolution on the province’s socio-economic development for the second half of 2008 that gives top priority to inflation control.
The council asked the Provincial People’s Committee to increase business production and investment from domestic and overseas sources.
The questions and issues raised during the debates in session concerning land clearance and compensation and so on.
At the session, delegates voted to elect Ms. Quach Ngoc Lan as Head of State budget and Economic Committee of the provincial People’s Council, Ms. Hoang Thi Bich Hang as Deputy Head of the Budget and Economic Committee. Besides, Mr. Tran Van Vinh, former Deputy General Director of Vietnam Airlines Corporation, was elected as Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee for the 2004-2009 tenure.
