More than VND28.5 billion raised for AO victims

Provinces AO Victims Support Fund receives donations from benefactors   

(ĐN)- On May 30, at the meeting hall of the province’s Sport-Culture Complex, Dong Nai province’s Agent Orange Victims Support Fund held a conference to review its activities during the past ten years. The conference was attended by Vice Chairman of Viet Nam Red Cross Association Pham Van Trong, Head of the Mass Mobilization Department of the Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee Bui Ngoc Thanh, and Vice Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Committee Huynh Thi Nga.

 

Dong Nai presently has more than 5,000 AO/dioxin victims, most of them are living in especially difficult circumstances. Up to now, the province’s AO Victims Support Fund has received many supports from individuals, organizations inside and outside the province. The Fund has over the past ten years raised more than VND28.5 billion to support AO victims throughout the province. Accordingly, the money has been used to build charity houses, provide beneficiaries with health care services, corrective surgery, wheelchairs, vocational training, allowances and scholarships.

 

In 2008, the Fund will continue to mobilize donations from socio-economic organizations inside and outside the country to expand its projects to help AO victims     

 

At the conference, the organizations and benefactors donated over VND1 billion to the Fund. On this occasion, Vietnam Red Cross Association awarded certificates of merits to 29 collectives for their achievements in the past time. The provincial People’s Committee presented certificates of merits to 18 collectives and 19 individuals.
