(ĐN)- 290 representatives of more than 200,000 members of Dong Nai Farmers’ Association and representatives from local agencies and organisations gathered in Dong Nai to attend the 7th Congress of the Association held on June 27. Also present at the congress were Mr. Le Minh Hoang, Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Farmers’ Association and Mr. Tran Dinh Thanh, Secretary of the Party Committee of Dong Nai province.
The Congress reviewed the performance of the Association in the sixth term. The Association added over 66,000 new members during the sixth term, bringing the total number of members to 209,000.
During the past five years, the patriotic emulation movement in production launched by the Association has attracted the participation of more than 127,000 farming households, out of whom, 73,151 households have been recognized as "Outstanding farmer household in production and business". Over the years, the Association has encouraged its members to participate in poverty reduction, and assist each other in production and daily life, helping to lift 11,278 households out of poverty. Besides, all members have actively participated in the movement “Studying and following Ho Chi Minh’s moral example”.
The congress elected a 35-member executive committee for the 2008-2013 term. Tran Nhu Do was re-elected Chairman and Le Huu Thien and Tran Van Quang were elected as Vice chairpersons.
On this occasion, the Vietnam Farmers’ Association awarded certificates of merit to 30 individuals for their active contributions to the development of the Association during the past five years.
