(ĐN)- On September 14, a launching ceremony of the 2007 Clean Up the World Campaign was held at the provincial Square by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and Dong Nai provincial People’s Committee. Attending the ceremony were Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Cong Thanh, Secretary of the HCM Communist Youth Union’s Central Committee Bui Dang Dung, an official at the Australian Consulate General in HCM City Graham Pearce, Standing Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Le Hong Phuong, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Ao Van Thinh and 2,500 Youth Union members, pupils and state cadres.

Clean Up the World, a community based environmental campaign, was initiated in 1993 by Ian Kiernan Ao – an Australian yachtsman – with the coordination from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Until now, the campaign has inspired an estimated 35 million volunteers in over 120 countries each year to take action. This is one of the largest community-based environmental campaigns in the world aiming to positively improve local environments. Vietnam has been a strong supporter of the campaign since its first involvement in 1994. The campaign activities included recycling and resource recovery, tree planting, education campaigns, water re-use and conservation, competitions, exhibitions and restoration projects.

After the launching ceremony, the participants planted many trees and clear the areas.
