
(ĐN) – The Tenth Plenary Session of the seventh-term Dong Nai province’s People’s Council is being organised in Dong Nai from 18 - 21 December at the meeting-hall of the Provincial Party Committee.
At this last formal meeting of the year, the Provincial People’s Council reviews the province’s socio-economic development in 2006, and discuss plans for 2007 and other issues.
On the opening day of the session, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Dinh Quoc Thai presented a report on the province’s socio-economic development in 2006. According to the report, Dong Nai province has gained some achievements in 2006. The province has achieved a gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate of 14.3% this year. The service sector has seen a 13.9% increase over the same period last year, the industry-construction sector, 16.8%, agriculture, forestry and fishery, 5.2%. Regarding the implementation of tasks set for 2006, the achievements outlined in the Provincial People’s Committee’s report included high economic growth, remarkably positive trends in industrial performance, as demonstrated by increased output and export turnover. Thai also addressed the challenges and the shortcomings in competitiveness of the economy in Dong Nai. The session also adopted a resolution on implementing socio-economic tasks for 2007 with major target as follows: striving to reach GDP growth rate of 15 percent, in which, industrial and construction production value: up 17 percent, agro-forestry-fisheries production value: up 4.1 percent, services value: up 16.5 percent.
Participants in the meeting also supported the measures proposed by the provincial government in order to create sharp changes in the quality of economic growth in Dong Nai in 2007.
The afternoon session focused on discussing the province’s land use plan for 2007-2010 and policy proposals on site clearance and resettlement compensation.
