In the early days of spring, Da Lat city in the central highlands of Lam Dong province has seen many visitors come to witness the vibrant purple colours of the jacaranda flowers, scientifically known as Jacaranda mimosifolia, during their bloom period.
The flower originates in South America, with the first jacaranda tree in Da Lat being planted by an engineer named Luong Van Sau |
In 1962, Mr Sau brought jacaranda seeds from France to Da Lat in order to cultivate saplings on a trial basis. Over time, others successfully replicated and planted these flowers throughout the streets of Da Lat |
A typical jacaranda tree has a height of between 10 and 15 metres |
Jacaranda trees have become a characteristic of the streets of Da Lat and can be seen on Tran Phu, Hai Ba Trung, and Nguyen Thi Minh Khai |
