Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts planned to film some scenes at Van Long Lagoon, Tam Coc, and Trang An tourist complex in the northern province of Ninh Binh.

Van Long Lagoon in Ninh Binh
Van Long is not a natural lagoon. It was formed in the 1960s after the Day River dikes were built.
Van Long lagoon is still not popular to tourists, so the landscape still looks primitive.
The ecosystem in the lagoon is diverse, with rich flora and fauna, including a community of rare Delacour's langur, which is named in the International Red Book for a high risk of extinction.

The most favorable time to visit Van Long is at dusk. Visitors can admire thousands of white storks flying to seek shelter at night.
Another famous scenic spot in Ninh Binh is the tourist complex of Trang An, consisting of Bai Dinh Pagoda, the ancient capital of Hoa Lu, Tam Coc - Bich Dong, and Trang An wharf.
There are many caves in Trang An, which are archaeological sites located in Hoa Lu specialized forest with 31 lakes and lagoons connected with 48 caves.
Trang An has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural and Natural Heritage site.
Tam Coc - Bich Dong is located inside Trang An complex, dubbed as "Ha Long Bay on land" or "the most beautiful cave in Vietnam".
Tam Coc means "three caves", including Ca, Hai and Ba caves... All three caves are formed by the Ngo Dong River that run through the mountain.
Halong Bay is also a landscape that was selected by the Hollywood film crew.
The Bay was formed after geological formations of hundreds of millions of years ago, including nearly 2,000 limestone islands spreading over an area of 1,553 km2. The combination of environment, climate, geological and natural factors created a special and unique ecological community.
Son Doong Cave in the National Park of Phong Nha - Ke Bang is also an emerging natural wonder of the world.
Earlier, another Hollywood movie “Pan” also shot some scenes in En Cave in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park.
