Nine new sea and island-related records have been made public to mark Vietnam’s Sea and Islands Week from June 5-8.

Nine new sea and island-related records have been made public to mark Vietnam’s Sea and Islands Week from June 5-8.

They are listed as follows:

1.       Tra Co beach in the northern province of Quang Ninh is the longest in the country, with its total length of 17km.

2.       Ha Long Bay, also in Quang Ninh, is known for its greatest number of islands (1,169).

3.       Tam Giang – Cau Hai in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue is the largest lagoon covering more than 21,000 hectares.

4.       Cat Ba is an archipelago in the northern port city of Haiphong, that has the largest number of islands (367).

5.       Truong Sa (Apratly) archipelago is furthest offshore.

6.       Hon Khoai is a cluster of islands in the southern province of Ca Mau, that is closest to the equator.

7.       Phu Quoc island covering 561 square kilometers in the southern province of Kien Giang is the largest in Vietnam.

8.       Nam Yet sea reserve covering over 35,000 hectares in the south-central city of Nha Trang is the largest in the country.

9.       Ly Son island district in the central province of Quang Ngai has the largest population density of 1,888 people per square kilometer (statistics in 2009).
