Nearly USD 24 million (VND 545 billion) will be spent to end hunger by 2025, according to National Action Program on Zero Hunger.
The program, approved by the Prime Minister on June 12 under Decision 712, is designed to ensure enough food and nutrition for all residents, thus improving Vietnamese people’s physical strength and stature.
It is inspired by the Zero Hunger Challenge, launched by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in 2012 to end hunger, eliminate all forms of malnutrition, and build inclusive and sustainable food systems.
The program is also aimed to fulfill the Sustainable Development Goal No. 2 which the country has committed with the United Nations.
Specifically, by 2025, the stunting malnutrition rate among children under-2 years will be reduced to below 20 percent nationwide and 25 percent in the northern mountainous areas and Central Highland region, while the rate of wasting malnutrition among children of this group will decrease to below 5 percent all around the country.
At the same time, the sustainable food supply system will be developed. All households participating in the program will join cooperatives or cooperative groups. Almost all small-scale farming households will have their productivity and incomes increase. Food waste and loss will be minimized.
