The National Assembly on June 20 passed the revised Penal Code with a highlight being ages subject to penal liability.
Under the law, persons aged full 14 to under 16 will have to bear penal liability for crimes or particularly serious crimes committed. The change is consistent to Viet Nam’s policy and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
The Criminal Procedure Code, the Law on Organisation of Criminal Investigation Agency, and Laws on Custody and Temporary Detention, will start from January 1, 2018.
Earlier, lawmakers debated the revised Law on Fisheries, which encourages offshore aquaculture.
The law also adds a new article on violations of regulations on multi-level business, aiming to put criminal settlements on illegal multi-level business activities. Accordingly, the highest punishment for the crime is VND 5 billion or five years in prison.
The same day, National Assembly (NA) deputies passed the draft laws on the guard force and on the management and use of weapons, explosive materials and support tools.
