Decree No. 89/2006/ND-CP: On goods labeling

Under the 5-chapter and 29-article Decree, issued by the Government on August 30, domestically circulated goods as well as imported and exported goods (except fresh and live foodstuff, unpacked processed foodstuff sold directly to consumers, materials, fuel, and goods for security and defense purposes, etc.) should be labeled according to the provisions of the Decree.

Under the 5-chapter and 29-article Decree, issued by the Government on August 30, domestically circulated goods as well as imported and exported goods (except fresh and live foodstuff, unpacked processed foodstuff sold directly to consumers, materials, fuel, and goods for security and defense purposes, etc.) should be labeled according to the provisions of the Decree.

Labels should be affixed on goods, packings or commodities to be easily noticed without disassembling details or parts of the goods.

A label should indicate the appellation of goods; name of organization or individual responsible for goods; quantity, date of manufacture, expiry date, and origin of goods.

The language used on goods labels must be Vietnamese. For domestically produced and circulated goods, labels may also be written in a foreign language but the foreign language version should be consistent with the Vietnamese one with sizes of letters not larger than those of Vietnamese letters.

For imported goods whose labels do not indicate or fully indicate the prescribed details in Vietnamese, additional labels indicating such details in Vietnamese shall be required with the original labels.

Producers shall be responsible for goods labeling while the Ministry of Science and Technology shall be answerable to the Government for the uniform state management of goods labeling nationwide.
