On September 16, the Dong Nai Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board submitted a report to the provincial People's Committee proposing a project to survey, study, and invest in the renovation, dredging, and expansion of the Buong River. The project aims to enhance drainage capacity in the area and significantly reduce flooding in residential areas along the river.

According to a preliminary survey and hydrological-hydraulic calculations based on collected data, to ensure effective drainage and address ongoing flooding affecting residential areas along both banks of the river, particularly in Phuoc Tan Ward, and support sustainable development, the Project Management Board and its consulting agency proposed a plan to renovate and widen the Buong River.

Under the proposed plan, construction and expansion will be carried out along the following sections of the Buong River: From Km 63+700 to Km 70+590 (approximately 6.9 km), from Km 63+700 to Km 68+000 (4.3 km), and from Km 68+000 to Km 70+590 (nearly 2.6 km).

The proposal also includes investment in the construction and renovation of the Ba Buom Canal, with key components as follows: new construction of the canal from Km 65+650 of the Buong River to Ba Buom Bridge (700 meters); new construction from Ba Buom Bridge to the existing canal section (over 1.1 kilometers); and renovation of the existing canal (also over 1.1 kilometers).

According to the Project Management Board, the total estimated investment for the project is over VND 4.3 trillion.

Previously, following directives from the provincial People’s Committee, the Project Management Board coordinated with consulting teams to conduct a preliminary survey of the river’s current state and surrounding residential areas, and to collect relevant technical documents.

Survey results indicate that the Buong River serves as the main drainage route for approximately 40,000 hectares of land, including downstream areas such as Phuoc Tan Ward and surrounding regions. Due to terrain features, surface conditions, and construction elevation levels in these residential areas, flooding occurs primarily along the stretch from the former Giang Dien Commune (now part of Trang Bom Commune, Dong Nai Province) downstream to the confluence of the Buong and Dong Nai rivers, with the most severe flooding concentrated in Phuoc Tan Ward. The situation has worsened in recent years.
