(ĐN) – On July 28, the inauguration ceremony of the Coherent Vietnam factory was held at the Nhon Trach 1 Industrial Park (IP) in Nhon Trach commune.
The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung, Director of Vietnam National University in HCM city Vu Hai Quan and Vice Chairman of Dong Nai provincial People’s Committee Ho Van Ha.
Also present were Anne Benjaminson, Acting Consul General of the United States in HCM city, along with senior executives from Coherent Corporation and Coherent Vietnam.

Coherent Corporation is a leading US-based high-tech group founded in 1971, originally specializing in materials and optics for industrial lasers. Currently, Coherent operates in over 20 countries and serves as a key supplier for many of the world’s major technology companies.
In Vietnam, Coherent began its investment journey in 2005. On October 31, 2023, Coherent held discussions with Dong Nai authorities to propose three high-tech projects at Nhon Trach 1 and Nhon Trach 2 IPs. In 2024, the provincial People’s Committee granted investment certificates for all three projects, with an initial capital of US$127 million. Since then, the group has commenced its investment activities, culminating in the inauguration of the new plant at Nhon Trach 1 IP.

The Coherent Vietnam facility has been designed with scalability, flexibility, and sustainability in mind, to meet the growing global demand for advanced technologies. The plant plays a pivotal role in accelerating the group’s capabilities in silicon carbide and optics, both essential for the transformation of industrial systems, high-speed communications, and data center infrastructure. It will enhance supply chain resilience, reduce delivery times, and improve access to Coherent’s strategic markets across Asia.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung highlighted that this marks an important milestone for both Dong Nai and Vietnam’s semiconductor industry. The event is especially meaningful as it coincides with the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and the United States, a time when Vietnam is strongly committed to building and developing its semiconductor sector and realizing the US’s pledged support. The Deputy PM expressed hope that Coherent will make significant contributions to help Vietnam become a crucial link and future hub in the global semiconductor supply chain.

Deputy PM Dung also commended the close collaboration among ministries, agencies, local authorities, and the corporation in swiftly establishing the factory and fostering Vietnam’s semiconductor ecosystem. The inauguration represents a well-earned achievement for Vietnam’s efforts in attracting strategic, high-tech investment, particularly in semiconductors.

To position Coherent as a “strategic partner” of Dong Nai and Vietnam, the Deputy PM urged the corporation to deepen its investments, especially in higher value-added segments of the semiconductor value chain. He also encouraged a strong focus on training and employing high-quality Vietnamese human resources, and boosting connections with local research institutes and universities to develop a comprehensive and sustainable innovation ecosystem.

Meanwhile, Vice Chairman Ho Van Ha of Dong Nai provincial People’s Committee affirmed that Coherent’s projects align with the province’s strategic development orientation. He reaffirmed the local government’s commitment to supporting businesses, proactively resolving difficulties during project implementation, streamlining administrative procedures, enhancing competitiveness and governance capacity, all aimed at fostering sustainable local development.
