The patient was brought to the Emergency Department by his family in a state of cardiac arrest due to electric shock at home, with dilated pupils and a very serious prognosis. The boy received continuous chest compressions on the way from home to the hospital. After receiving the patient, the doctors determined that the patient had stopped circulating for about 10 minutes.

Doctor Le Dinh Thanh, Department of Examination and Emergency, said: Realizing that the patient's condition was very dangerous, the team of the Department of Examination and Emergency immediately activated the advanced cardiac arrest emergency procedure. The procedure includes: chest compressions - balloon compression, endotracheal intubation, establishing a blood line - vasopressors; at the same time, continuously assessing the patient's condition with modern monitoring equipment.

After 10 minutes of emergency treatment, the patient began to show some weak reflexes. The doctors continued to use a specialized ultrasound machine to perform an echocardiogram on the patient. The electrocardiogram results showed that the patient was in ventricular fibrillation, so they immediately gave the patient an electric shock. After 5 minutes of electric shock, the patient's pupils contracted again and had a light reflex, showing signs of recovery.

At this time, the doctors of the Examination - Emergency Department urgently consulted with the doctors of the Intensive Care and Anti-Poison Department and decided to perform the command hypothermia technique (a specialized technique) to protect the child's brain and reduce secondary damage after circulatory arrest. As a result, the child recovered spectacularly and is now in stable health.

Before the above mentioned case, Dong Nai Children’s Hospital also successfully performed emergency treatment and miraculously saved the life of a child who had suffered cardiac arrest due to a lightning strike. The good news is that despite experiencing a near-death experience, the patient did not suffer any after-effects.
