(ĐN)- As of April 1st, Dong Nai province has concluded the measles vaccination campaign for children aged 6 months to under 9 months and children aged 1 year to 10 years.

Vaccinating against measles for children in Long Thanh district.

Ho Thi Hoa, Deputy Head of the Department of Infectious Disease Prevention, Provincial Center for Disease Control reported that by the end of the campaign, over 112,300 children aged 1-10 years had been vaccinated against measles, achieving a rate of 97.5%. Additionally, over 6,800 children aged 6 months to under 9 months have been vaccinated, achieving a rate of 81.2%.

According to Hoa, although the campaign has ended, health stations will continue to vaccinate any children in the eligible age group over the next few days. Therefore, parents with children of the appropriate age who have not yet received the measles vaccine or have not had both doses should take their children to health stations for guidance on vaccinating their children against measles.

Regarding efforts to prevent and control measles outbreaks, on April 1st, the Department of Health issued a document requesting affiliated units and hospitals in the province to enhance procedures for screening, isolation, treatment, and infection control for measles in healthcare facilities.

In this regard, units must develop, strengthen, review, and update the measles prevention and control plan at healthcare facilities. They should be prepared with appropriate procedures for receiving, emergency care, isolation, and treatment in case of an increase in suspected measles cases, patients with measles seeking treatment and hospitalization, and a rise in severe and critical cases.

For severe measles cases requiring intensive care treatment, hospitals/health centers should arrange treatment areas in the intensive care unit or units/beds within the infectious disease department. The treatment pathway must ensure isolation and infection control to prevent cross-contamination.
