A batch of 100,000 vials of Remdesivir, a Covid-19 antiviral, produced by global pharmaceutical company Mylan, a unit of the United States' Pfizer, has arrived in Vietnam.

The 100,000 vials, part of the 200,000 Remdesivir vials donated by DB Group, a founding shareholder of the Ecopark Group, have also been transported to Covid-hit provinces and cities, including HCMC, Dong Nai, Long An, Hanoi, Khanh Hoa, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Phu Yen, Lam Dong and Nghe An.
The remaining 100,000 vials will be shipped to Vietnam in the coming days, the local media reported.
The 200,000 Remdesivir vials are expected to help the localities treat 20,000-30,000 Covid patients.
Remdesivir was approved for the treatment of the coronavirus by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on October 22 last year. As the antiviral helps shorten the treatment period and helps critical patients recover faster, it has been used by 50 countries, including the United States, Australia, Japan, Singapore and India.
