Vietnam has entered the 54th day in a row without community transmission, with 316 cases having fully recovered from the novel coronavirus, while the total number of infections climbed to 332 after three more imported cases were confirmed over the course of June 6-8, the Ministry of Health reported on June 9.
According to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, Monday (June 8) saw nine patients being released from hospital, bringing the national total recoveries to 316 and its positive case number down to 16.
Of the total 332 cases confirmed, 192 were imported and the rest were community transmissions.
As many as 8,182 cases having close contact with registered patients and returning from epidemic-hit areas are being kept in quarantine.
Among the remaining positive cases in treatment, 5 have tested negative for the SARS-CoV-2 virus once or at least twice.
Regarding the 43-year-old British patient, the most critical COVID-19 case in the nation, with a miraculous recovery, the British pilot patient on June 8 evening was able to sit up, follow medical instructions or even press the button to adjust the height of his bed.
He also wrote himself on the board and swung his legs - a process that is unbelievable for health experts, just a few days after the patient was near his death.
As a result, 49 out of 50 foreigners infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus have fully recovered from the disease in Vietnam. The British pilot known as patient 91 is the last foreigner who is still undergoing intensive treatment at HCM City-based Cho Ray hospital.
Among Southeast Asian nations, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and East Timor have not yet recorded any deaths caused by the virus so far.
