The Ministry of Health announced two more cases of the novel coronavirus on the morning of April 13, taking the country’s tally to 262, with no deaths reported.

Both Vietnamese cases live in Ha Loi village of Hanoi’s Me Linh district, a flashpoint for the highly contagious coronavirus.

One patient is a 60-year-old female trader at a local wet market and the other, a 26-year-old man, works for Samsung electronics plant in nearby Bac Ninh province.

The two new COVID-19 cases brought the total number of infections in Ha Loi village to 10.

Hanoi has imposed a lockdown on the village, which has a population of more than 10,000. Inter-agency forces have been deployed at 10 checkpoints to monitor around the clock travel restrictions to the locality.

As of 06.00am on April 13, there have been 262 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, of which 144 cases have fully recovered and been discharged from hospital.

No deaths have been reported, according to the Ministry of Health.

The Government has introduced two-week nationwide social distancing measures until April 15 in an effort to contain the epidemic.

Infection numbers have since been low, but experts warned Vietnam will pay the price if the measures are relaxed.

The National Steering Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control is to assess the situation and give opinions on whether or not to extend the social distancing period on April 13 for submission to the Prime Minister.
