The patient was isolated and treated at Dong Van District General Hospital on April 7 after displaying indications of a fever, a cough, and shortness of breath. She had her sample taken for testing which showed a positive result for SARS-CoV-2 virus. Of the overall number of COVID-19 cases in the country, 160 returned from abroad (59.7%) and 108 were community infections (40.3%).
A total of 68,049 people coming into close contact and returning from epidemic-hit areas are being kept in quarantine for health monitoring while 11,884 cases are undergoing concentrated isolation at hospitals and other health facilities. The remaining cases are placed into isolation at home or at places of their residence.
According to a report from the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, there are three severe patients needing oxygen support and undergoing dialysis at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases No2 in Dong Anh district of Hanoi, including patients No 19 and 16 while patient 19 has progressed.
Patient 91 at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ho Chi Minh is still relying on ventilator support with no fever, and still under monitoring for coagulation disorders and HIT syndrome.
So far, 23 cases have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 once and 10 cases have tested negative for the virus twice.
Earlier at an April 15 meeting reviewing the implementation of the Prime Minister’s Directive 16 on urgent measures against the epidemic, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that social distancing measures need to be removed in a gradual and prudent manner in line with each locality’s real situation in order to achieve the dual target of effectively containing the disease and ensuring socio-economic development.
Meanwhile, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the nation’s two major cities said to be at a high risk of COVID-19 community infection are still subject to a social distancing extension to another week.
The country has so far recorded 267 cases of COVID-19, including 160 foreigners, with no fatalities. Two more patients were discharged from hospital on April 15, bringing the total number of recoveries to 171.
