(ĐN)- Dengue fever epidemics could be forecast up to six months in advance by a satellite-based dengue fever early warning system (D-MOSS).
Accordingly, Dong Nai, Ha Noi, Khanh Hoa and Dak Lak have been chosen to pilot the system.
Funded by the UK Space Agency's International Partnership Programme, D-MOSS is developed by a consortium led by HR Wallingford with partners such as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Vietnamese Health Ministry.
D-MOSS is developing a forecasting system in which earth observation datasets are combined with weather forecasts to predict the likelihood of dengue epidemics.
The project, which started in Dong Nai in March, aims to improve dengue prevention and increase control capacity.
Dong Nai recorded 18,800 dengue cases since the beginning of this year, including three deaths.
