(ĐN) - Doctors from Thong Nhat General Hospital successfully reconnected a knuckle to the finger of a 16-year-old man in a 10-hour surgery. This is the first hospital in Dong Nai to perform this kind of surgery.
The young man was taken to the hospital on March 25 after his thumb’s knuckle was cut off by a knife. The knuckle was frozen in ice for several hours prior to arrival at the hospital.
To reattach the severe knuckle, doctors performed microsurgery, a form of plastic surgery in which they reconnect bone, muscles, nerves, and blood vessels under microscope.
After 10 days since operation, the patient had been released from the hospital, and he could already move the finger without aches and pains.
