(ĐN) - Bien Hoa city held a meeting on November 25 to respond to the National Action Month for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control and the 2018 World AIDS Day (December 1).
The national action month for HIV/AIDS prevention and control runs from November 10 to December 10 with a focus on achieving the 90 – 90 – 90 targets by 2020 to end HIV/AIDS in Vietnam by 2030.
These targets aim that by 2020, 90 percent of all people with HIV know their HIV status, 90 percent of all people with diagnosed HIV will receive sustained antiretroviral therapy, and 90 percent of all people receiving antiretroviral therapy will have viral suppression.
During the action month, a number of activities will be organized to raise awareness and encourage people to join in preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS.
Since the beginning of this year, Bien Hoa reported 89 people newly infected with HIV and two deaths due to HIV.
So far, 3,315 cases of HIV infection were found in the city, 593 of which turned to AIDS. 1,124 HIV-positive people died.
Over the past time, the city focused on enhancing preventative solutions and providing HIV tests and insurance for high-risk people. Services to prevent mother-to-child HIV transmission have been also stepped up, including expanding HIV testing for pregnant women, and providing anti-retroviral drugs for HIV-infected women.
