The honourees are some of the mst outstanding blood donors from 63 cities and provinces nationwide as well as from ministries and sectors. Many of them have donated blood more than 60 times so far, including Ho Van Thuc from Dong Nai province, and Nguyen Ngoc Thanh, Nguyen Dinh Tien and Pham Thien Hien from Ho Chi Minh City.
Earlier, the donors travelled to Hoa Lu ancient capital in Ninh Binh province to attend a gala evening dinner, before joining a reception hosted by Party and State leaders on June 8.
According to the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation Campaigns nearly 1.4 million units of blood were collected in 2017. Last year, the rate of voluntary blood donations saw a 98% increase and the rate of blood donors was nearly 1.6% of the entire population.
The steering committee also announced at the press conference that the sixth annual ‘Red Journey’ blood donation campaign will be launched in Ca Mau province on June 14, targeting a collection of at least 30,000 units of blood after concluding its tour to 26 cities and provinces on July 15.
Throughout its five editions, the campaign has collected 120,000 units of blood, helping to save the lives of thousands of patients.
