By yesterday, the 21-year-old patient, who wished to remain anonymous, was in a stable condition.

The patient, from the southern province of Binh Duong, was hospitalised last Monday with injuries to their stomach, large intestine and small intestine. The patient lost their left hand and significant amounts of blood in the incident.

The doctors conducted emergency surgery and transfused three litres of blood for the patient.

The seven-hour surgery was successful.

Do Duc Dinh, one of the surgeons, said that if the surgery was conducted any later, the patient could have died.

Đình said that the doctors found a number of tiny metal pieces in the patient’s chest, belly and thighs, because the firecrackers were put in a can and then ignited.
