(ĐN)- A meeting was held in Dong Nai on November 25 in response to the National Action Month for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control and World AIDS Day (December 1).

“Early HIV testing - Looking towards 90-90-90 target by 2020” is the theme of this year’s action month which takes place between November 10 and December 10.

The UN 90-90-90 Goals mean that by 2020, 90 percent of all people living with HIV to know their HIV status, 90 percent of people with diagnosed HIV infection will receive sustained antiretroviral (ARV) therapy while 90 percent of HIV-infected people receiving antiretroviral therapy will have viral suppression.

The goal of this action month is to strengthen the participation of the whole political system and the whole people, to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS prevention and control and the interest of early HIV testing among people from all walks of life.

HIV/AIDS epidemic appeared for the first time in Dong Nai on April, 1993. As of September 2017, the province had more than 7,700 HIV carriers or 0.24 percent of the population, and over 2,300 deaths from AIDS. Accordingly, the provincial authorities currently monitor and provide free treatment for over 4,100 people infected with HIV. The Bien Hoa city, Long Thanh district and Long Khanh town have the highest rate in the province.
