(ĐN)- A 24-year-old patient from Vinh Thanh commune, Nhon Trach district tested positive for the Zika virus after having a high fever, rash and muscle pains two weeks earlier. The patient is now in stable health condition.
This is the third case in the province so far, triggering concern that more Zika cases are likely to appear in Dong Nai.
Dong Nai Preventive Medicine Center investigated the cases and closely monitor the suspected who lives in the patients’ areas.
The center also sprayed chemicals to skill larvae in the areas surrounding the house of the patient.
The Zika virus is transmitted to humans primarily through Aedes aegypty mosquito bites and sexual intercourse.
Zika infection during pregnancy may lead to microcephaly in children, which is responsible for incomplete brain development and an unusually small head.
