A Vietnamese woman in the southern province of Dong Nai has recovered from a cardiac surgery after she was allegedly stabbed in the heart by her husband.
Nguyen Thi Cam Nhung, 20, from Xuan Loc District, was transferred to a general hospital in Long Khanh Town at 2:50 pm on Friday, half-conscious with pale skin and mucous membrane.
Realizing Nhung was suffering multiple injuries, including seven stabs in her chest and hands, one of which pierced two centimeters deep through the right ventricle, doctors decided to perform a cardiotomy to rescue the patient.
Surgeons then drained 1.6 liters of blood occupying both her pleura and pericardium, transfused one liter of blood and sutured the wounds for the patient.
After an hour of surgery, Nhung overcame the critical condition, doctors said, adding that she had gained her consciousness.
“Currently, the patient’s health is stable but we have to observe her for 10 days here before discharge,” Doctor Phan Van O from the Surgery Department, said.
According to her family, Nhung’s husband had stabbed her and fled.
The man’s identity is still unknown to police.
